Everyone deserves care that respects who they are
At All About Living, we believe that every person has the right to feel safe, respected and supported when receiving aged care. The Statement of Rights outlines what you can expect from your aged care provider and the standards of care you are entitled to receive.
These rights are protected under the Aged Care Act 2024 and place older Australians at the centre of aged care.
Our role is to ensure your rights are upheld every day, and that your care supports your independence, dignity and wellbeing.
What is the Statement of Rights?
The Statement of Rights explains how you should be treated when receiving aged care services and what providers must deliver. It applies to everyone receiving aged care in Australia.
The Statement of Rights ensures that care is:
- Respectful and dignified
- Fair and person-centred
- Safe, transparent and responsive
- Guided by your choices and preferences
It also guides aged care providers and workers to act with respect, compassion and accountability in every interaction.
Your rights explained
Choice and control
You have the right to make your own decisions about your care, lifestyle, relationships and daily routines. You can choose how your services are delivered and receive support to make decisions if you need it.
Fair access to care
You have the right to fair and equitable access to assessments and services. Your care should recognise your individual circumstances, culture, identity, life experiences and any cognitive or health conditions.
Safe and quality care
You have the right to safe, high-quality care delivered by trained and qualified staff who treat you with dignity and respect and value who you are.
Privacy and confidentiality
You have the right to have your personal information kept private and secure. Your information should only be shared with your consent, unless required by law.
Communication and feedback
You have the right to receive information in a way you understand, to ask questions, raise concerns and provide feedback. Complaints should be handled fairly, respectfully and in a timely way, without fear of negative consequences.
Support and social connection
You have the right to stay connected with the people and things that matter to you, including family, friends, pets, community and culture. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this includes connection to Country or Island Home.
Cultural safety and inclusion
You have the right to care that values diversity, promotes cultural safety and ensures you feel welcomed, included and free from discrimination.
Advocacy and representation
You have the right to be supported by an advocate or a trusted person of your choice to help you understand your rights, make decisions and have your voice heard.
What this means in everyday care
At All About Living, these rights guide how we work with you every day.
